BASE CAMP REGISTRATION
What is Belaying?
Belaying is the act of keeping your climber safe and secure while they are top rope or lead climbing.
A belayer stays on the ground while their climber ascends the wall, and prevents their climber
from falling far distances or hitting the ground. All participants wanting to belay must get
certified by a Quarry staff member prior to belaying. Belay certification is free.
Top rope Belay Rules
Participants under the age of 12 must be belayed by an adult (18yrs+).
Participants 12yrs of age or older may get certified to belay for others who are also 12yrs or older.
Belay certification is awarded at our staff’s discretion.
How do I get Top Rope Belay Certified?
Visit the front desk and our staff will teach you how to belay. If you already know how to belay, our staff will perform a safety check.
Belay certification typically takes 15 minutes, but depends on how quickly you grasp the concepts.
Group belay certification takes an average of 30 minutes for ten participants. This may vary depending on the number of participants, and how closely they pay attention.
How do I know if I'm Belay Certified?
If you have not been to The Quarry before, then you are not belay certified with us. If you are unsure, visit the front desk, we can pull up your certification info. Our staff are always happy to offer you a refresher on belaying and climbing safety!
How do I get Lead Belay Certified?
Please talk to our desk staff for in-depth information about Lead certification. All participants must get Lead certified before lead climbing at The Quarry.
